DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE
International Day of the Abolition of Slavery: The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, marks the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (resolution 317(IV) of December 2 1949). The focus of this day is on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.

Salvation Army Toy Room Trip - anyone going with Mrs Davis on this trip must report to the pit at 11: 40 am for taxi pickup.
Yearbook:. The 2025/2026 yearbook is now officially on sale and can be purchased through school cash online for $55. This is a great way to preserve your high school memories for many years to come! If you have any questions, please see Mr. Ricci in room 1030 or Ms. Dimond in the main office.
Bake Sale: Your student council will be hosting a holiday bake sale this Thursday, December 4th, in the conference room. Come stop by for a sweet treat! Both cash and card payments will be accepted.
Volunteer Opportunity: The Westlane winter sports season is approaching, and we need volunteers to help with the games! You can earn volunteer hours, by helping to run these games as a minor official. This includes scorekeeping, timekeeping and being a linesperson for volleyball. Game times are after school and you must be available from 2:30 until 6:00. If you are interested in volunteering, see the Phys. Ed. department to be added to the athletic council volunteer list!!
Fashion: The fashion room will be open today at lunch for any students who would like extra time to complete their projects.
CLUBS
Badminton Club: Badminton club tonight in the main gym from 6 - 8 pm. Make sure to have transportation home for 8 pm and wear appropriate gym shoes.
Diversity Club is cancelled today. We’ll see you next week!
JOIN Club is meeting this Thursday at lunch in room 2010. JOIN is a club to provide students who are new to Canada with a safe space to learn, connect, and grow together. Rosa Parks Day: Commemorates the arrest of Rosa Parks, in 1955, for defying segregation by refusing to give up her seat on the bus for a white passenger. The incident led to the end of segregation.
World AIDS Day: World AIDS Day, designated on December 1 every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.

SPORTS
Swimming - Congratulations to the Westlane Swim team who showed very well at the preliminary meet on Thursday last week. Many team members achieved personal best times. Arda Ertorer placed 1st in 100 m Backstroke and 2nd in 50 m in junior backstroke. Reed Proudlock placed 3rd in senior backstroke. Rosan Karahan and Heaton VanBussel placed 4th in their events, which will allow them to move on if they achieve this at the zone meet this week. Wish them luck for Thursday’s zone championships!
